happy tuesday.  hope your weekend was oh so good, ours was pretty eventful.  jesse's family from moab was in town over the weekend for a play that his cousin, kirsten was in.  she played annelle in steel magnolias and it was really great.  i love going to live performances and it was fun seeing everyone.

on saturday, our good friends miah and aubrie finally had their gender reveal party and when they had first found out, they asked me to make the cake, like THE cake.  kind of a lot of pressure, so i spent a couple months looking for inspiration and thinking about what i wanted it to look like.  they wanted it to be a traditional baby blue or baby pink with white outside, and i knew i wanted it to be extra special and actually (hopefully!) taste good too.  in the end, i decided to do a lemon-almond cake and incorporate fresh fruit: raspberries for a girl, blueberries for a boy, and pink/blue cream cheese frosting between the four layers.  and for the outside?  i love the look of a homey cake that is imperfectly frosted but i also still wanted it to look polished.  i decided to try this method and i was pretty pleased with the result.

the party was intimate and so well done with just family and a few close friends.  jesse and i are lucky to have such good people in our lives, and feel so fortunate to get to celebrate all these wonderful moments with them.

good afternoon friends!  so i have officially "launched" this blog and it really took some guts.  i was battling with the timing and whether it was ready.  sometimes i would think that it was and then i would find this new, incredible, and polished blog and i would get scared.  like really scared.  but then i realize that everyone's blog started out somewhere and all the improvements and changes were made over time.  i'll just need to remember that now.  so if you're here checking it out, thank you dear soul..

the other day, jesse and i went around to some furniture consignment shops.  we love these troves of surprises and go on days off.  emilie jayne was our last stop and i found these gorgeous, vintage, scalloped dessert plates.  i have a weakness for special tableware, especially delicate, white, vintage-y pieces so i snagged them.  they are made of milk glass and the edges are so thin they are almost transparent.  emilie jayne is a great spot to find interesting tableware pieces along with home and furniture pieces.  they also have an amazing children's section of the store where you can find vintage play sets and cute little trinkets to decorate a nursery with.  unless you're like me and find toys suitable for decorating the mantle or bookcase.

any oscar parties in the works?  i love the oscars.  have a wondrous weekend..

hello, what a busy week!  who knew it took so much work to get a blog started!  i am still getting used to blogging consistently which isn't as easy as i thought it would be.  it really has to be scheduled and added to your weekly routine but i have committed to this blog and know it will get easier.

so i was thinking that introductions are in order since the heart of bohemeyum is my little family and i will most likely be featuring them a lot...yep, even the cats.  i've made peace with my cat lady title.

first up is the boy, my boy.  jesse and i have been together since october 2008.  we met each other at work (he was the one who called me back for an interview) and his love entered my life at a time when i most needed it.  most people who know us as a couple know that we are pretty feisty but we complement each other in ways that even i don't understand.  he is kind, considerate, thoughtful, so ridiculously funny, and i have become a more complete soul with him.

a couple of months after meeting jesse, i decided it was time to add a cat.  jesse grew up around cats and the only pet i was allowed to have growing up was a turtle.  we adopted lucius, our black cat in march 2009 from a lady who had found him on the streets.  we don't know much about where he came from but he is a mellow fellow who loves to cuddle and eat.  lucius also enjoys talking to us, chasing the red laser dot, and lounging in front of the heater.  he is touchy about his tail and unfortunately is easily annoyed by his sister hero..

hero is the cat we adopted after lucius in an attempt to provide lucius a feline companion while we were out.  they didn't start out so hot and sadly, don't get along as well as i had once hoped they would.  hero is a beautiful marmalade cat and she has the sweetest little chirp in the world.  she is very shy but loves attention and laying on your chest.  we think she might've been abused/ neglected as a kitten because she can be so timid but once she warms up, she is truly loving.  hero is also a legit hunter and is super agile and graceful.

around halloween, these cats could be on a magazine cover i'm telling you..

there's a little intro.  hope you stick around even after those two gigantic cat photos.  i have a couple more posts planned for this week as well as the oscars to look forward to.  i tell you this only because then i will be held accountable.  have a lovely night.
